Well, in order to keep their Heavenly nights exciting, the gang came up with a new game....."Name all 50 Earthly States in Twenty Minutes and Win a Prize". Um, needless to say, Slew still, to this day, thinks that there are absolutely, 100%, at least 56 states. No "ifs", "ands" or "buts"....and the first state on his list was the state of Cinncinnati! Huh??? Too many episodes of WKRP in Cinncinnati maybe??? Second on his list, was the state of "Louisville".....even though, he ran his Kentucky Derby in Louisville, KENTUCKY!!! Hmm, when was the last time the state's name went before the city's name??!! So, it's "game on" between Barbaro and Slew!! Barbaro made up Heavenly cue cards and laid them all out in front of him and he still only ended up with 43 states!! Northern Dancer told Barbaro that he had an Earthly globe he could look at if he really needed too, and Slew had no problems with that because he said that the globe didn't have the U.S. on it anyways!! Whhhaaatttttt???? Ten minutes left and Slew's list now has 62 states on it....let's take a peek...."Eyellinois" and "Eyedaho".....Oh, wait a minute, we think he means "Illinois" and "Idaho"...he mispronounced the words.....GEESH!! Ok, again, he's got North Dakota, South Dakota, as well as East Dakota and West Dakota......ZOINKS!!! New Mexico and Old Mexico, Virginia, West Virginia, East Virginia, South Virginia, and North Virginia, and of course, the state of Las Vegas and it is at this point that we will promptly use their phrase...."What happens at Heaven's Gate, stays at Heaven's Gate"! Well, with a slight grammatical modification of course!! Boy, Slew's list is certainly larger than 50 states.....we're thinking his list could top 150 states, er ah, cities/states!! Barbaro is now up to 49 states and after peeking at his list....we know he's only missing the state of Maine!! Shhhh, we won't say anything, but we think Barbaro is going to win!! At this juncture, Northern Dancer looked over Slew's list and couldn't believe his Heavenly eyes.....Slew is up to 163 states, with two minutes to go!! Northern Dancer spoke up, "Um Slew, the game is called 'Name all 50 Earthly States in Twenty Minutes and Win a Prize'....I think you're missing the main idea here!!" It was at this point that Barbaro jumped up and yelled, "MAINE"....."That's it....that's the 50th state.....I WIN!!!" Needless to say, a "happy dance" ensued and Northern Dancer handed Barbaro his prize.......A GLOBE.....and yes, this one DOES have the United States on it........We still don't know where Slew seen a globe that DIDN'T include the U.S.......

This is wayyyyyy COOL:) ohhhhh....and he's there with *EIGHT BELLS*, too....Bless her Heart of Gold..that girl ran so well that day....I know she's happy at HGF though...but oh, that was such a very sad day...and then, on a much BRIGHTER note..he's also there with *Mr. C. Attle Slew*...the bestest horsey chef, instructor, make us roll on floor laugh out loud horse EVER:) Geeze, Murph..you're in such GOOD COMPANY:)

ReplyDeleteBig EXCITEMENT here last evening!! :-O Shortly after darka-darka, I hear a very loudish sound out my backporch area...went to investigate, turned on the floodlights...nothing...I could see/hear nothing...this morning, while out there having my coffee...something looked 'different' I kept thinking, "Gee, something looks very different..." A BIG LIVE OAK TREE which contained a huge hollow at the bottom..where Does have been known to tuck newborn fawns while they are out browsing...laid right down into the canyon off my backyard!!! OY!
Live Oaks don't have very deep root systems...and growing on the side hill, along with the enormous hollow which of course weakened it terribly...and as yole prolly know, Live Oaks have very broad spanses of growth which make them a bit on the 'top-heavy' side anyway..coupled with the Typhoon winds in October..and then:( the BIG WIND from the North we had here on Saturday...well, the old tree just got tired, Family...and last evening, it decided to lay down:(
Neighbors will come, drooling over all the wonderful firewood the tree will provide them all next season after it's had a chance to dry...and in the meantime, the little squirrels have lost a MAJOR freeway exchange and also a great tree to play in...that part makes me feel very sad for them...there are other on/off ramps to the freeway system, and they'll soon learn the new routes...but still..I can't help feel sad, as the tree was very large and provided them and the birdies with many places to explore, rest and nest in:(
My home this morning, since the sun rises on that side of my house..is QUITE BRIGHTER without all those limbs/leaves..and I SHUDDER to think of summertime, as the HEAT will be beating into my little abode from the rising of the sunshine until around noon or after...and I suspect that I might be able to plant some sunloving petunias out back in the planters this next spring...'cause there's sure gonna be ALOTSA more sunshine....I might even need to re-think the Hydrangias...dunno if they will be so appreciating Mr. Sun where they are now...omGoodness!!
I hope everyone had sweet dreams...and this day for yole will be nothing short of swift/uneventful and before you know it, you'll be 'home again, home again, clippity-clop':)

Hello Famblee!!! Slew is STILL adamant that Cinncinnati is a STATE!! Oh well....he tried!! Barbaro is sharing his new globe with Slew and sort of teaching him about Geography!!

:) loving still....our *SLEW*..and I think he's so right about the 'creeping' to the rear bumber of the person in front at the red lights! LOL! Coffee and a danish, 'cause we somehow managed to move 9" closer to our destination!! :)
ReplyDeleteEH...I don't really know how old, don't think like a hundred years..but it might have been 60-70 years old? It was pretty good sized...circumference wise, I mean and tall, too. When the men come to buck it up, I'll ask them what they think....I will say, as the day progressed and the reality of it being gone sank in..I am sad about it:( The yardscape is so different without it...and though the squirrels are learning new routes, it's still going to take some getting used to, not having it there anymore.
