In The Words Of Barbaro
"It is said that horses do not understand the way humans speak....Maybe so, maybe we don't know the inflection of words used in a sentence, or the punchline of a joke told, or funny sarcasm......But this I can guarantee you...... We can feel emotions. We know when you're sad, and we can tell when you're happy. We can feel when you're nervous, and we are fully aware when you're heartbroken. It was on this night, four years ago, that a team of dedicated, loving people poured their hearts out to me....'Whatever happens, happens', they said, 'We'll still love you.' One by one they talked to me, privately, looking from side to side to ensure that no one saw them....Who would ever want to be caught talking to a horse. Seems silly. But they knew different. They knew my language, and that's what makes a good team. They spoke words of encouragement and told me to go out there and fly......I did, and I will forever be grateful to all of them. I realized how special the Derby was to each one of them, in their own memorable way. I paced in my stall, uninterested in food or drink, just waiting for the first glimpses of the Kentucky sunrise to peak above the horizon. So many people believed in me, so many people loved me. I told myself over and over that I could win this, not for me, but for them. And finally, with what seemed like an eternity, the rays of the morning sun shone brightly into my eyes, almost like an Angelic calling. I stood waiting and wondering in anticipation......Let me out onto the track, let me show you who I am, let me show you what I can do. I knew at that moment, that a plan was in place for me, a calling, a reason, a way to touch the lives of so many for years to come.......Don't ever think a horse cannot understand you....we can...we just do it with our hearts instead of our ears......~Love Barbaro"

Hi Handsome Sweetheart:)
ReplyDeleteI stopped in here tonight, to talk to you a minute about tomorrow...well, the 'tomorrow of 2006, tomorrow':) And you've already come here to talk to us about that 'tomorrow':)
I wanted to write you to say that day...the day of KD #132...that one is, for me, the one of all time!! That was YOUR *DERBY*, Barbaro! That was the day you got straight into my heart:) and you've never left, ever since!
Because of you, Barbaro, lots of other horses have got straight into my heart, too, and I thank you and thank you and thank you for them and ALL you've taught me!
I love you! Now, Always and Forever!
xxoolynne
Barbaro , I have to thank Lynne , and Debbie LA , for bringing me to your wonderful post. You got it just right , as you always do , many people counted on you and you didn't let us down. You excelled - in everything - and you took us with you on this journey .
ReplyDeleteThank you for teaching me how to help horses and stop their slaughter if I can. I will work for you and horses always. Because of your life.
Good Derby afternooon, y'all!
ReplyDeleteMay all the horses come home after the races today and every day, safe, sound and still cared for by those that raced them, no matter that they were in 1st place or last.
Barbaro, if you happen to see Angel Nat while at the KHP, please get close to her and breathe in her ear. I just know that she'll know it's YOU!
linda ~ ga
Good mornin', y'all!
ReplyDeleteEight Belles, I still think of you and how you put your whole heart into racing on that Derby Day two years ago... You sure did love to run, girl!! Now you can do that EVERY DAY against the BEST racers at the Farm!! That makes me smile real BIG:)
Have a grand Monday, y'all!

Happy Tuesday Night Mead, Everyone! I know..it's almost bedtime in the south and eastwings..but here, it's just 5:30p...though I'll just be raising a small cup of NyQuil this Tuesday Night...I have a bad sinus infection:( Waaaa!! :)

Good Thursday mornin', y'all! Bad fog again this morning in the South Wing...we had a tragic accident yesterday when a 92 year old man hit a child crossing the street to get on the school bus. I know I'm being judgemental but where in the heck did a 92 year old have to be at 7 AM in the FOG that just made him have to get behind the wheel??!!
ReplyDeleteLynn, I hope you get to feeling better soon!!
BTW, I'm so happy that Super Saver and all the other horses came through the race safely:)
linda ~ ga
Oh Linda..how tragic for the child and for the 92y/old driver, too:( I hope the child will be alright? I cannot imagine...
ReplyDeleteI'm working on the 'getting better' part, Thanks:)
Our Sandra...Mommy to *CHIEF* is getting another dog! OMGosh! I'm so excited for her..his name is *BUDDY*!! Carleen Sova, a FOB from San Jose, CA just lost a black lab mix named Buddy two weeks ago...she was heartbroken...and Sandra called me this morning to say she's getting her Buddy over this coming weekend! When I heard him described as a Black Lab Mix...with a white chest and A SPOTTED TONGUE!! OMGosh! I just know Chiefster and Buddy and Murphy, too....all had PAWS in this one!! Wheeeee! Yole remember, Murphy had a bit of Chow in him..that's where the spotted tongue comes in:) I can hardly wait to see photos and hear all about it! Sandra had a 'grin' in her voice today for the first time in 10 months since Chief got to HGF...she was making what she called her "Layette List" for PetSmart all day today...LOL.
I hope everyone has sweet dreams tonight! Tomorrow is MEAD DAY! Wheeee!
xxoolynne
Good Mead Day Friday, y'all!!

Happy Mead Day Toosday, y'all!!
ReplyDeleteOur visit w/ the children was perfect. Got lotsa lovin' from Bam which made Coda and Badgley stay away from ME:) We keep telling those silly kittehs he only wants to play but they don't believe us!! lol!!
I'm sorry about Joe's dogger, Jules. He's at the Farm now w/ Murphy, though, shreading paper or some such fun thing! Still, it hurts... Lynne, is there a candle @ gratefulness? Will go and check.
Cheers, y'all!
linda ~ ga
Linda, I'll go see if there might be a candle going for Jules...Joe wrote today that they got hundreds of emails y'day offering condolence and love for he, Cathy and their beloved Jules..yes, it's a hard one, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad:) you had such a good visit, Linda!! Those silly kittehs, they have no idea what they are missing out on, huh?! :)
I have missed *CHEERS* tonight...it's way past e'one's bedtime in the eastwing...but still daylight here...so, I'll raise a glass of Ocean Spray White Peach Cranberry juice to yole..how's that? :)
xolynne
Hi to ALL:)
ReplyDeleteWhat's the HAPPS at the Farm? I betcha everyone is doing just 'dine&fandy':) and that always makes me feel happy!
I'm slowly but surely getting over whatever this bug was! Boy..it's taking it's sweet time, though:/ Nasty bug! Someone I talked to today said everyone who has had it takes a long time to regain their energy level! That eased my mind a bit...'cause I was beginning to wonder WHEN is my energy going to come back! I even got Vitamins! and more surprising than that...I've been TAKING THEM! LOL!
Hope everyone slept like LAMBS and Happy Friday!!
xolynne
Good mornin', y'all!!
ReplyDeleteEH, I know that you've welcomed Sherman to the Farm. He's my friend Donna's daddy dog to her Ceilidh who's been in Hevvin since my Piper. Bet those girls have been showing him all the cool places and have introduced him to Barbaro, John Henry, Murphy, Dom & Tonk and Heidi girl:) Please remind him of how much his mom loves and misses him...she always will!
Lynne, those bugs are rough this year!! Good to know you are slowly getting your energy back. Keep taking those vitamins, girl!!! lol!!
Cheers to y'all on this Friday, Mead Day:) Hot here in the South Wing...maybe a nice cool Black Cherry Vodka and sweet tea would be appropriate!!
linda ~ ga
Linda...Oh, I'm so sorry to read of Sherman flying home..poor Donna:( I know you're right though...all our kidddddds are helping him adjust to his new and wonderful life at HGF!
ReplyDeleteYes..vitamins...I am taking them! This being sick just isn't any fun at all, Linda:(
I think I rather like the sound of your Mead of Choice for later today..it's sounds yummy!
Nicanor is running a Turf Race just before the Preakness tomorrow...Safe Trip Nicky! And to the 13? horses running the Preakness...God's White Light ALL AROUND YOU...run like the wind...safe home to you ALL! I care NOT 'where' you finish..just please finish safe/sound/whole! And may your hoomans give you extra treats and LOTS of LOVE for your efforts, too!
Happy Weekend to ALL!
xolynne
Hi Handsome Sweetheart:)
ReplyDeleteWell, Barbaro...another Preakness has come/gone now...and everyone was safe...and again this year, no Triple Crown Winner, either.
Your little bro did fine...he came home safe/sound and that is all any of us really care about!
Four years, Bobby...four of 'em! We're all still here doing things to help the horses:) Thinking of you each and every single day...and loving you FOREVER!
xxooLynne-Your Forever Friend in CA
Happy Wednesday, Everyone:)
ReplyDeleteI missed *MEAD* last evening..but I see our Linda, GA wasn't here, either...maybe we can make up for it today? Get a 'do-over', maybe? :)
Too early in the a.m., still here in the westwing to come up with any ideas yet of 'flavors'...but I'll work on that as the day progresses:)
EH: Hope all is well with you and those HGF Residents! I know they're all having the time of their Heavenly Lives...so am guessing all IS definitely well:)
I wish yole a great/grand/wonderful day today!
xolynne
Well it sure musta been a doozie of a Wally World trip, EH!! Or maybe you had troubles rounding up the View Crew cuz they wanted to stay and see if a Triple Crown winner was going to be... Anywho, we sure do miss YOU:)
ReplyDeleteAll is well in the South Wing. Cannot wait to see what 'flavor' you'll choose, Lynne!! Cheers, y'all!
linda ~ ga
:) Linda~GA,
ReplyDeleteJust about 1p here in the westwing...and I think maybe a Pina (can't find how to do the 'thingy' over that word) Colada sounds really GOOD! Some 'fruit' and nice smooth rum...yummy! So, I'll have one of those:)
Clouds here...they were present early in the a.m., then went away...but now, dangit:/ they're back...I'm so weary of this 'no spring' Spring by now:( It's not cold though, so that is nice.
xo-lynne
Happy *MEAD DAY* Heavenly Family:)
ReplyDeleteAnother..ANOTHER Friday! The days just FLY!
It's so 'chillsey' here again this morning, I think I'll opt for a *GIRL SCOUT COOKIE* later on!
LOL! The unseasonably cool temps for this time of year, coupled with Google's page today...in which PAC MAN is celebrating his *30TH* B'DAY! reminds me of that evening all those years ago when our friends and we decided to stop in the bar of the restaurant for an after dinner drink...it was wintertime...cold outdoors...the bartender suggested that we try the Girl Scout Cookie...which I did..in fact, I had two of them! And played PAC MAN...I got so BLITZED..I giggled all the way to the car...with husband on one arm and friend's husband on the other, holding me up...I was laughing so hard I'd never have stayed standing on my own!! :) Makes me LOL just writing about it here!! Ahhhh...fond memories from long-gone days:)
I hope everyone has a great/grand/wonderful weekend...all horses setting hooves to tracks..God's White Light all around you....cross that line and gallop out and back to your stalls safe/sound, you beauties ALL:)
xolynne
Yippee, it's Mead Day Toosday, y'all!
ReplyDeleteDreary here and fixin to rain. We need it for the crops in the fields!
Saw that little foal the last few days. Such a tiny thing and so cute! Might be a little Buckskin baby...tan body w/ a dark mane and stockings.
Cheers, y'all!!!
linda ~ ga
Good Wednesday Morning To All:)
ReplyDeleteYep! I sure did miss Mead last evening! With not a single legitimate excuse except I forgot! Linda, GA....I hope you did enjoy some yummy flavored adult beverage for me and e'one else, too:)
I read Joe each day...don't know if yole do or not..but today entry got to me:( and am ever-grateful for Maddy and her friend and her friend's financial ability to relieve the Filly from the life she so did NOT want...and am THRILLED to read of how well she is doing today:)
www.tbfriends.com if you're interested. The Blog isn't archived...so you must read daily, otherwise it's gone forever..Well, actually on the DB there is a Thread titled: Joe at TB Friends Needs Help...some lovely person copies/pastes there each day what Joe posts:)
I've got such a 'to-do' list made for this day...yesterday I did too, but the list went by the wayside...and I got into bed last night feeling a bit depressed that I had 'wasted' an entire day doing 'nothing':/ So:) today I'm up and 'attem' already and moving forward now too, so I'll close this one and wish everyone here a 'dine&fandy' Wednesday! :)
xolynne
Well...:( I missed *FRIDAY NIGHT MEAD & GREET AT QUID'S LAST DITCH* tonight..and I don't see our Linda!GA here either...it's already well past midnight in the east and south wings...so, I'm here in the westwing with my bottle of water and raising it to everyone! *CHEERS FAMILY* :)
ReplyDeleteI hope everyong has a safe and enjoyable long weekend...THANK YOU TO OUR SERVICE MEN/WOMEN FOR ALL THEY HAVE GIVEN AND CONTINUE GIVING FOR OUR FREEDOM!
xolynne
Good Sunday afternoon, y'all!
ReplyDeleteHOT in the South Wing...drove to a nephews graduation yesterday and passed fields of horses, cows, goats. They were gathered around ponds and the great shade of the pin oaks & pecan trees. Also saw corn ready to be picked!! Yum for both ME and the critters who get to enjoy it:)
Gotta work tomorrow, Memorial Day:( Not too happy about it! Hope y'all have a great one, though:)
Happy Picnic Day, y'all!!
linda ~ ga
Helllloooooo, anybody out there????? Well I'll be danged. Seems like y'all have disappeared, never to be found or heard from again! Makes me sad:( No more updates, cheers on Mead Day or news on my sweet babies at the Farm....races have come and gone w/out any news on if the gang ran their own races.... Guess I'll survive but it still makes me sad!
ReplyDeletelinda ~ ga
Hey, Linda, GA!
ReplyDeleteI check in here but hadn't seen more than the 24 posts until this morning..Glad to see you:)
I know..makes me sad, too...I miss the fun times at HGF and most especially *SLEW* and what he's up to there.
Hope your weekend is a good one, Linda..it's Saturday 6/26 as I write this one. xo
